The worst was the 2m high Yellow River magnolia, which died on us after 3 months during the vacation. 400€ gone.....
The noble roses, Amber-

It was a pity about the 2.5m high Yellow River magnolia that died on us 3 months after planting while on vacation. 400€ lost...
Our Amber and sumac trees are growing well, the Acer palmatum only in the shade unfortunately. Ok, one is still fighting.
A eucalyptus is growing really well here, it’s already 4m tall.

And around our garden pond, there are beautiful Leyland cypresses as a screen to the street, ok, some of them were cheap in the clearance sale.

But with 500 to 1000 €, you won't get very far with that area. The plants on our rooftop terrace already cost more, where we have about 25 m2 of planting area. I really hate to take away your illusion there, but even 10 Euros / m2 for a perennial bed is not feasible in my opinion, unless you grow all the plants yourself or the plants are on average only a few cm high when purchased. And I can tell you from experience that some plants, e.g. lilac, take years to grow from a small plant to a usable size...

Right, if the cypress is supposed to be a privacy screen immediately, it has to be between 1.7 and 2.0m tall, which costs. And at 20x20€ you are already at 400€ again....

That’s roughly how it is. I’m still following along lively, but gas prices for uninsulated, old existing properties just aren’t that interesting to me right now. :) And I somehow don’t need to comment on further speculations about which plants, riding mowers, etc. I will need… Otherwise I might still need a combine harvester and a moon rocket or something in the end...

Just a bit about the garden: All my relatives have big gardens, from which we can get dozens of cuttings and sometimes even larger plants for free. There’s even a riding mower available that we could borrow if necessary. One of my aunts also works in a nursery and could get us bigger purchases “with a discount.” Also: The garden doesn’t have to be “finished” on day 1. Plants just need time to grow...

Still, of course we would plan a certain budget for the outdoor facilities, that’s only logical. :) My parents now have a robotic lawn mower and for the lawn area we have in mind (which isn’t supposed to be that big), it would already be good to have one right away.
