I would now be more worried about the smoke than the lack of electricity. You can get out quickly here, theoretically. In case of a power outage, it's a different story. I should talk to my two fire chiefs.

Is not really a solution, just want to mention that I have set it up so that if the smoke detectors go off, all the shutters open so I can get out quickly everywhere. I strongly suspect that there is still power at that time.

Have you ever looked at the slats of the roller shutters? The spring breaks if you look at them the wrong way once, we have aluminum roller shutters, they don't hold up... in winter they were torn apart by the motor because they were frozen. I want to say, a normal adult can break those things. Everyone else not only has the roller shutters as an obstacle but also the window sill or fall protection.

Normally, the smoke detectors should go off before everything is filled with smoke, then I can either take the route over the one!! staircase to the exit or I close the door of the room and wave for help at the window...

We are not in Hollywood here, where it takes 10 seconds from the smoke detector to a full fire and after 15 seconds the heat exchangers blow up...

There is also a difference between self-rescue and rescue by others (referred to outside of building regulations as "escape route" and "rescue route"). The second rescue route is usually not designed for self-rescue (e.g., jumping from the attic) but for rescue by others. Only someone from outside should be able to access it to provide help.

Everyone with a BUS system probably has that. BUT a fire very often originates from electrical devices and these can already cause a "power outage." If a photovoltaic system with a battery is added, it gets even more interesting. I think the idea of connecting the motor of the second escape route to the UPS (separate cable!) is not a bad idea.

Yes, if you have the opportunity to do so, that is certainly a sensible idea. I had previously misunderstood your post regarding this.

It is interesting how much some people overestimate their ability to react in the event of a fire. As a rule, you never experience something like this or only once in your life. A thousand things go through your mind, and one breath of smoke will bring you to the ground. The escape route is for external rescue, as was mentioned. No one should jump out like a ninja. The invading smoke (chimney effect and what was mentioned) is the lesser evil. If there is smoke in the stairwell, you have zero chance of getting out on your own. Making yourself visible for external rescue is the method of choice.
