...rental apartments and therefore want a unit just for ourselves. At least along the vertical axis. A semi-detached house would be preferable, but as stated, the price.

The semi-detached house is now becoming attractive after all. We have reserved the terraced mid-terrace house. I hope I can negotiate the agreed price there. If the semi-detached house is available for a bit cheaper, that would also be worth considering. Something has been renewed there over the years. Even though the house is from the late 70s. With solar thermal and photovoltaic. Let's see.

I can’t keep up anymore!
-Garage or carport can be added later.
-50sqm of garden is 50sqm more than no house at all – you have to also look back in time and consider what you couldn’t afford.
A house with a 50sqm garden should offer more quality of life than a condominium with a balcony. Condos of acceptable size with a rooftop terrace cost more here than a modest house, and certainly also where you are.
But you have to weigh things up. As I already said: with the offer you have there, it’s confusing ;)

That definitely doesn't work. Unfortunately, there is no space. But there is an underground garage of a school next door. You can probably rent a spot there. The semi-detached house was now absolutely a coincidence because we just discovered that we know them. However, the house is from 1978, and even though a lot has been renewed (roof insulation, solar, new windows, etc.), it remains a house from the 70s. And the 70s were not necessarily the highest quality construction.

... and still lasts longer than you and your children and their children with reasonable care ;) What was generally bad about the 70s?

I don't want to say bad. However, I had read that insulation in the 70s was not yet optimal and, moreover, the building materials were more toxic (asbestos etc.). The 90s are apparently known for construction quality.
