Unfortunately, that is the case. In our current rental apartment, we have normal underfloor heating wall controllers and they are useless. In the house, I will additionally "take" the temperature directly on the floor and under the ceiling in the middle of the room. This will be realized via 1-wire and KNX. With the most clever possible script, I want to see if something useful can be achieved.

The goal should be: If I have 20 degrees and want to increase to 21...that I don't have 22+ first before the underfloor heating has "finished regulating". That is how it is at the moment and in most cases as well...

Do you mean that they only know 1/0, i.e. on/off? Yes, that's exactly how it works in 90% of cases when we are talking about a low-temperature underfloor heating system here. The heating engineer sets a rough volume flow (if at all), and the rest is done by the RTR, meaning it cuts off the room as soon as it becomes too warm. But this has the consequence that the flow temperature always has to be kept higher than necessary because the RTR could at any time reopen the flow.

It is comparable to driving a car that is constantly accelerating at full throttle, and you can only regulate the speed with the brake pedal (RTR).

Wouldn't it then be more sensible and economical to only give as much gas as necessary to reach a desired speed and then maintain it?

Nothing.

That would "only" cause overshooting when changing the target temperature. But I believe Mycraft generally doubts that you can achieve different temperatures in different rooms with the RTR and underfloor heating. (I would not agree with that.)

No, I do not doubt that, but in a modern building hardly any temperature differences are possible, see my picture 2-3 degrees. More is wishful thinking... but 2-3 degrees are possible even without RTR, also see my picture here.

Question:

So why then the RTRs, if I can create the same conditions without them?

If it is really like that (digital, only on/off), then the question is about the timing. Assuming the valve needs to achieve 50% flow to reach the target temperature; then it is of course better if it alternates 10s on and 10s off, instead of 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off.

I need to clarify today whether we have continuous actuators or solenoid valves.. or whatever type of fitting is installed there.

I see it differently, but that also depends on my habits. For example, I like to sleep with the window open even in winter (not just because of the cool air, but especially because of the sounds). I also think that much more heat energy is lost through our exterior walls and roof surface than is supplied through interior walls and doors (applies only in winter). It is rare that I want it warm in the bedroom.

So I need at least an "On/Off" button in the bedroom.
