Hello everyone,

today we started thinking about the furnishing of the hallway. The room is large but has many doors, so it's somehow not that easy.
Here is the floor plan. I hope I haven’t forgotten any important details. No tall cabinet can go in the top right corner. At least the upper part of the wall should be easily accessible, since the fuse box is hidden there. In the lower part is the heating distributor, which you don’t have to access that often. What do we want to accommodate?
- Coat closet for 4 people in the long term
- Space for shoes for 4 people
- Drawers for small stuff like scarves, hats, shoe cleaning supplies, bags...
- Bench
- Mirror, preferably floor-length

I’ve already looked at various Ikea hacks on how to build something like this from Metod, Platsa etc. It should probably all be from the same system for a uniform look, but IKEA is not a must.

My plan is a bench on the left wall, tall cabinets bottom right, dresser top right. Unfortunately, my husband doesn’t like that because he thinks the space on the left is wasted. However, I don’t see much cabinet space there so the passage to the bathroom doesn’t become too narrow. He would like the dresser closer to the front door to put keys and such down there directly.

Since we can’t agree, I need your help. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Make the cabinet on wheels, that is enough to get to the [Sicherungskasten]. Everything becomes easier.

I've thought about that too, but I think my husband will refuse if there are visible wheels under the cabinet. Besides, the wall recess is only 50cm deep, and a wardrobe is somewhat deeper.

Top right [BESTÅ] series. 40cm deep. How high are the flaps? A sideboard would also be sufficient there.
Bottom right a cabinet. Can use [Platsa/BESTÅ] series there. They can be configured endlessly, so drawers for hats, scarves, etc. are also possible.
Left a bench with an adjoining dresser/cabinet. Above the bench coat hooks. You can also manage all this with the [Platsa/BESTÅ] series.
The problem is that it will look like a doctor's office.
Skip the cover panels from Ikea and get laminated chipboard to bring some color in. They cost about 20-25€ each.

There are stylish pieces of furniture that deliberately stand on wheels and actually look good because of it. Give the old man a nudge towards modern times – The left wall is, in my opinion, less suitable for a deeper cupboard because it would then protrude into the room. I could imagine your huge mirror there, maybe even a real monster (there are great mirrors or ones that go directly on the wall). In the upper right, you could, for example, have a 50cm-deep multiplex board cut in 40mm thickness, oiled/varnished as you like or a black-stained MDF board. Place it in the corner on the wall and pull it forward as far as you want. At the end, simply lay your board on top of another vertically placed board (MDF/multiplex). For example, we used MDF and sprayed it with gold leaf spray. It just looks great and it doesn’t matter if the spraying isn’t perfect since it’s unique. In between, have a suitable coat rail cut by the locksmith or just use any standard one. The jackets then hang at chest height/lower downwards and you can put or decorate something on the board above. Just an idea…..

Unfortunately, I am no longer on site. Estimated, the flap below goes up to 120cm, the one above then starts at 140cm. Because of the furniture arrangement or because of the Ikea look? I found something like that on the internet and thought it was nice, do you mean that with particle boards?
