Ok, I need to find some pictures to see how that looks. But if you all say that floor-to-ceiling is less overwhelming, then I’ll take your word for it. So you mean (just for my understanding) floor-to-ceiling cabinets on both right walls? And then each of them exactly up to the passage edge or less, so that it’s sort of stepped?

yes. Just not all elements closed. You can also design it in a way that it appears more open and airy.

For example: Or like this: Or here with an integrated bench: You can either leave your door completely open or install wall cabinets above the door up to the ceiling to further avoid the impression of a closet. Then it's simply a passage. The storage space up there is used either for off-season clothes or other things you rarely need to access/that children should not get to, or things you want to make it hard for yourself to reach (self-discipline). Light bulbs, vacuum cleaner bags, snacks, tobacco, 50-year-old single malt, leather whip...

Yes, the pictures look nice. But we would rather hide everything behind doors and not have jackets hanging open. The niche in the 1st picture is really cool, but unfortunately we can't fit that much wardrobe in one piece.

I thought about planning a wardrobe only on the right side (initially) at the bottom, which can also be floor-to-ceiling. That would be almost 2 large Pax, where all the jackets currently in use should fit. Inside the wardrobe at the bottom inner drawers for accessories. In the top right corner I would initially just put the coat rack, where visitors can hang their jackets, for example. If the lower wardrobe is not enough in the long run, we could still install one on top. On the left side a 1m wide wardrobe, about 1m-1.20m high. At least as many shoes fit in there as in our current shoe cabinet, probably more. On top of this wardrobe a shallow drawer for keys and small items. On top of it, you can place your stuff when you come in. Directly next to it, 1m lower cabinets as a bench, where shoes can also fit. Basically like here:

A properly placed mirror makes a big difference, as seen in the picture above. I would also include that.
