Then he also wrote: "If I have to refund you anything from what you have already paid me, of course, you will get everything back immediately. Just for your information."
With all due respect, so you write invoices on a whim hoping no one notices, and now he’s indirectly saying that he might have charged too much?!
That's great... He should please transfer the paid instalments back to you, afterwards you both, preferably with someone knowledgeable, make a list of which services have been provided and he then gets paid according to that invoice. He has the time for the preparation that he requested and you get your correct billing (and the corresponding leverage), in return you (for now) don’t involve a lawyer. With everything around it, this could become a win-win situation with minimal costs for both sides. But I would suggest this to him only verbally without witnesses, so the written deadline remains valid.
As long as the cables are properly labeled in the box, the worst possible is already done. Wiring of the actuators in the box is generally not such a big deal, and parameterization of the sensors and actuators is basic work. The only important thing is to know what is what, because otherwise it’s a search that unnecessarily costs time and money. Be glad if you find someone soon who can finish the potential chaos. A buddy was left a chaotic box that now has to be reworked.
