Water is not the problem here either. I only have a few meters to 2 wells that used to supply drinking water. The wells were never decommissioned. Filter in between and done. Toilet water from the stream or barrel. However, carrying every drop to my parents - sporty.

The worst thing that can happen is that you have no internet anymore. :p

I would go to my somewhat paranoid buddy who has equipped his house with a 6kW diesel generator, which automatically kicks in as soon as the grid power is out for more than a few minutes. :D

Well, the last power outage here was only a few weeks ago. According to hearsay, an animal got lost in a transformer station. As a result, the power went out in three districts for between 1/2 and 1.5 hours. Our first thought was, of course, the lack of an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) in front of the coffee machine. Fortunately, I had just brewed a fresh coffee, and the employee with the highest coffee consumption managed to hold out just fine.

With the current weather here, a failure wouldn't be unlikely at all:
(that's the company bike, left standing outside on Friday)

Here the weather is not so extreme at all
about 25 cm of snow - not much
about 10 degrees below zero - fresh but not unusual

Power goes out now and then. Sometimes just one wire, sometimes everything. Never for long.
