It is clear that people who have built everything themselves tend to estimate the savings as high as possible. Usually, the calculations are not done objectively. I think the savings can most likely be calculated based on the hours, as done here. That results in 10 to 20 thousand euros.

That is a lot of money, but it would not have been worth it to me to sacrifice my annual vacation and possibly risk my father's health. Never! My parents have also earned their retirement and with back problems, they have no business being on a construction site anymore.

Just as clear as the people who do not/make little contributions tend to estimate the savings through personal effort as low as possible.

...well...no one here said that you don't save anything...and the OP asked if it is realistic to save 50,000 EUR on the shell construction through self-performance. And if , for example, throws out figures of 10,000 to 20,000 EUR, then in my opinion that is still far from being underestimated. Considering the 40 EUR hourly wage, we are still talking about 250 to 500 working hours, on the side. Not taking into account all other factors...that's quite a significant amount.

I find it unrealistic to save 50,000 EUR on the shell construction through self-work. If you do a whole lot, very, very, very much yourself, then possibly for the whole house.

With us, it is still common to use the annual vacation for house construction. A colleague just recently took 5 weeks off in a row for that. Others were also away for 4 weeks.

Regarding children and building a house. The rule with us is also that first the nest is built, then the children come. The few people I know will therefore also receive [Baukindergeld].

My parents built a Hebel kit house in 94/95 (140 sqm semi-detached house (ground floor, upper floor, attic with knee wall) + basement + garage).

Then someone from Hebel came and briefly explained the things from the construction manual, helped/gave tips with the first row of bricks, and checked at certain milestones whether it met their specifications.

The only truly paid craftsmen on the construction site were:

[*]the civil engineer for the excavation pit
[*](for the concrete slab there was concrete and a concrete pump)
    [*]pouring the screed

[*]the installer to connect the gas connection to the heating and to approve the system (I think he also connected the Was
[*]electric box (the electrical system itself was "coordinated" by an electrician in the family)
    [*]roof truss and roofing
[*]as well as the subcontractors for the connections of Telekom, gas, water

The rest was family, relatives, and friendly craftsmen (nicely according to the construction manual).

Construction time was almost 6 months. It was a nice time.

And there were some in the nearby area at that time who built like that.

That's how I would have liked to do it too, house first then child, but around here you don't get a building plot at all if you don't have children (points system)
