I find this attitude extremely questionable. A house is an investment that most people pay off their entire lives. I would not give up a shower forever for that. That is absurd (and by the way, a 4K surcharge for it is also absurd). These are not shoes that I send back tomorrow because I made a mistake. Details do matter here – because you pay a lot of money for each of them. A wrong decision will annoy you for a lifetime if it cannot be undone or is difficult to reverse. Therefore, better build in the lintel for the bathroom door in the hallway.

Off topic: Damn, despite having relatively many windows in the house, we got it wrong in both bathrooms. It never occurred to me. :-( Also goes on our list of mistakes.
