Probably true as well, but since I am generally very sun-loving and can handle heat well, I doubt that it’s a matter of perception in this case. It’s simply insanely hot when temperatures already exceed 30 degrees in July and then the sun is beating down on it. Even my palm tree, which should really be able to withstand that, didn’t survive it.
But of course, the basic rule applies here as with everything else: tastes vary. This time we wanted a garden that we can really use in the summer, especially with a baby or small child. That simply wouldn’t be possible on the rooftop terrace.
I basically just wanted to point out that a garden with a south-west orientation is not necessarily the ultimate solution.

Yes, the second terrace is of course an option, but with the plot we have in mind, that would mean facing the street with a southwest orientation. Even though it is a dead-end street for 5 houses (or at our end even only 2 houses), somehow it's still like being "on display."
Maybe actually start looking at a house parallelly and see if/how that fits the plot...

But you cannot compare a rooftop terrace to a garden. On the rooftop terrace, the heat lingers, while in a garden there is a different climate, at least if it contains a few plants and trees. And even if it can also be very warm in the garden in July/August, these days are in the absolute minority in Germany. Right now, for example, you can only sit outside in the sun; in the shade it is still too cold. But you are right in that everyone should consider this for themselves and their preferences if they have the opportunity to choose the property accordingly.

That may be the case in Brandenburg, but here in Bavaria it is different. Even now, since yesterday, from about 3 p.m. we have to lower the shutters because otherwise it gets too warm inside the living space. And it is only 22 degrees. You could sit outside comfortably, but hardly in summer. You might not want to believe me, but that is how it is.

I had to go inside now too, way too hot outside. That’s also the downside of a new housing development, it takes a long time for all the plants to grow. By the way, even if you save 30k, it might be that you have to spend it again on a longer driveway. (Wenn Haus nach hinten für Südgarten geplant ist)

saralina, I agree with you - we also have a south-facing apartment in the Ruhr area, you can't stand it on hot days. Neither on our balcony nor in the (rather sunny) garden. Our house will have the garden facing east, that suits us well, especially with a child. (+ we have a front garden, keyword "second terrace" ;-))

I would also consider how much garden you "need" - so are you home a lot and fussing around in the garden? That also needs to be maintained. My parents have 6xx, we wouldn't manage that alongside work + baby.
