We live west of the A9, 384 m as the crow flies (I measured) away. There is a noise barrier, but I have the feeling it "sloshes" over it. (if you stand about 100 m in front of the noise barrier you can't hear anything at all)
Between us and the highway is rural (so loose) development and large trees.
With east wind you can hear the highway extremely well (regardless of whether the weather is humid or dry), with other wind directions it is not as extreme (so from the south or north - the highway makes a slight curve around our village)
When it is windless you can hear the low background noise.
Oh yes: 2 km further south there is a highway valley bridge. With south wind (and maybe it's also due to the humidity) you can occasionally hear the "clicking" that a previous speaker also mentioned.
Although we built a house here, it is bearable, but I don't think I would buy such a plot if there is something "better".
I just grew up in this village, the parental house has stood since 1806, the highway came in the 1930s of the last century, which is why we built here (the plot was free)
