We are currently in the shell construction phase, and besides the kitchen, the utility room was really the final boss when it came to planning.
We submitted a very specific 'furnishing proposal' outlining how we could imagine the furniture and distribution of the technology. Our general contractor approved our plan because we left more space for the technology than the required minimum dimensions. We had initially asked the general contractor or their subcontractor for these dimensions and did not receive them, with the comment: not to really plan with these minimum dimensions... So we researched the size of the technology ourselves on the internet and put together the layout of the utility room (electricity, heat pump, storage tank, water including softening, etc.) including our wishes like a sink, dryer, washing machine, laundry drying rack.
Then we sent it back to the general contractor, received feedback 'that looks very good,' and now construction is underway.
I can understand that every craftsman wants as much space as possible for their trade, but as the client, I do not want to 'waste' space. For me, that is passive technology; for example, I need the heat pump every day, but I do not have to actively interact with it. Sorry if that is inconvenient for the installation, but I have no square meters to spare, and the quoted craftsman prices for me include a 'pain allowance' for inconvenient installation.
Thank you very much for the insights. Would it be possible for you to send me the excerpt from your plan of the technical room? Unfortunately, the eccentric forum does not (yet) allow me to send you a private message because I have "not written enough posts"... Even if your room has different dimensions than ours, it would be a great help for us to at least be able to take a look at it. Otherwise, we don’t know where to put our stuff :(
