Hello everyone,

after we renewed the fronts of our kitchen, our countertop no longer matches.

We had Ärlig fronts, which were 16 mm thick, now we have Norje with about 20 mm thickness. Our problem is that we had bought the countertop from the hardware store back then (not 62 cm deep) and tricked the wall closure base so that the Ärlig front and the countertop end slightly overlapping at the front.
The Norje fronts unfortunately now protrude a little, I won't like that in the long term, and I will have to get new countertops.

Unfortunately, I do not have the option to use ready-made Ikea countertops, at least on one side I would have to join two panels, which I don't really want.

How satisfied are you with custom-made countertops?
I am tempted by stone or acrylic; in Scandinavia there is also glass for the Metod, I could also wait for that. Are you satisfied with the quality?
How is the measuring service, and are the countertops installed as well?
Are there problems if no Ikea cooktop is to be fitted?

If I google Ikea countertops, one sometimes finds not so encouraging reports.

Best regards

A reasonable kitchen salesperson would advise against the stone slabs... You just have to measure everything yourself 100% correctly or hire someone for a professional measurement - because the slab is made based on that. If it doesn't fit, you're out of luck. (Which would be different with IKEA's measurement...)

Hello Ikeaner,

Why?

So I don't quite understand now, can I have everything measured and assembled by IKEA, or do I have to measure myself with the risk of making a mistake?

Hey

One should definitely use Ikea's measuring service, especially for "stone" or acrylic. You can still shorten the crispbread boards yourself if necessary, but it's better not to do that with the stone slabs. Those few euros are worth it. We have had a "classic" Personlig chipboard countertop for 2 years. We are quite satisfied with it, except that the attached edges are not quite as 100% perfect as, for example, in my parents' kitchen. We measured ourselves and were explicitly warned about the risk! By the way, I consider the quality of the countertop to be good to very good. For example, I tamp my espresso directly on the countertop and there are no marks. Unfortunately, I cannot say anything about the synthetic resin stone slabs (it's not real stone anyway).

Why

The IKEA stone slabs are artificial stone (quartz resin), which means the pores are sealed and the slab is resistant to acid and other nasty substances.
The only thing that would bother me is the tactile feeling, cold and hard (if you put a glass on it).

I would always have custom slabs measured, especially with stone it is absolutely necessary.
