We oil every six months because with our water- and mud-loving dog we also have very heavy wear. Manufacturer's recommendation is once a year (Kährs). For us, it's very easy. There is a special cleaner, with which we wipe after vacuuming, then lightly movable furniture (table/chairs etc.) is moved to one corner in one evening, oiled (1 hour of work), left to dry overnight and the next day the fun with the furniture in the other corner. Done. The good thing about oil is that you don’t have to treat the entire surface meticulously and evenly. You can even oil spotwise if needed. So for us about 2 hours of work every six months. Window cleaning is worse ;)

We also have parquet in the rental apartment... Honestly, I find it quite terrible :D Partly already slightly swollen (no idea what the previous tenant did) and every knife tip has already caused small dents. In my opinion, tiles are just more durable. Parquet, especially in wet areas, should definitely be well maintained, otherwise it looks awful (at least that's how I know it). But yes, if you don't want a transition, then only tiles everywhere or parquet everywhere will help :)

Knives are not a problem for us, for example.

Our parquet has a very “rustic” look and the numerous knots and irregularities are filled with a black compound. This is now slowly but surely breaking out in various places and sometimes leaves sharp edges. Despite the great feeling underfoot, I am glad when we get rid of the floor.
