Can you always take vacation whenever you want? For me, there are times when you shouldn’t (aren’t allowed to) take vacation. Moreover, laying takes considerably longer than if several professionals do it. This extra time must be allowed in the construction schedule and may incur double costs. So you might not save anything, but end up paying more in the end.

Yes, I can take vacation whenever I want (if necessary, I call in the morning and say I’m not coming).

Of course, the relocation takes longer - nobody disputes that. But not only because of lack of experience, but because it is done more carefully.

Of course, it has to fit into the schedule - if you have one. We don’t have one because we don’t stress about the creation (except that we of course also like to get in).

Simply saying that you save with EL is obviously pointless - it depends. But to say flat out that it’s not worth it... well, that’s even more pointless.

Where do you actually get the certainty that you really execute your EL *better* than someone who day in, day out performs the same procedures? Is that directed at me then? You only save significant money with EL if the shell is built using EL; clearer now? And additionally – building the shell using EL only makes sense if at least one trained mason is available at any time AND the material can be bought cheaply. Ergo, when I talk about EL, I don’t mean laying screed insulation. Anyone – sorry – fool who has both hands can do that; even I can. Whether the savings are worth the effort, however, I doubt, because we are talking about surfaces and not fiddly work – for example Venetian plaster technique – into which many man-hours are sunk. Apart from usual painting and flooring work, possibly drywall construction, practically every layperson is overwhelmed; especially if they lack professional background and/or have no craftsman permanently providing expert advice. writes: "Basically, I had no life for 2.5 years, meaning 11 hours a day occupied by my job and travel time, plus at least 7 hours daily on the construction site, on weekends and days off between 13 and 17 hours." I am convinced that anyone who can only afford a home through disproportionately high EL should consider this step not just 2, 5, or 10 times. Anyone who has learned a craft and wants to take on this part themselves during the construction will not stumble. Anyone skilled with their hands will also be able to perform the finishing trades with EL. Anything beyond that is more than daring, unless there are comparable parameters to those of . But even he writes: "You obviously can’t think about any kind of relationship with something like this; I was single and if I had been in a relationship at the time, the construction period certainly wouldn’t have survived." I think it is rather that EL gives the builder a good feeling, a feeling that expresses, "I have contributed myself to the success of the house construction." That also sets in with reasonable EL. Rhenish greetings

Nope...

Huh? So now it’s being differentiated – only the shell counts as REAL self-performance, everything else is apparently idiot work and you don’t save anything.

By the way, I saved several thousand euros on electrical work – apparently also just peanuts now. Perimeter insulation also around a thousand. Basement welding sheets a thousand... all peanuts and worthless...

We save almost 1,000 euros – apparently that’s just peanuts to you again and I hope you don’t treat your customers like that. For me, that’s hard-earned money, which I’d rather invest in skilled labor tasks that I can’t do.

Even with these tasks, the layman is overwhelmed if he has no clue. You really have to know what you’re doing and should have appropriate sources (not just a YouTube video) at hand.

I have always said here that people tend to overestimate themselves with EL, but people like you portray it again as if one were promoting EL as so easy...

It ALWAYS depends on the individual situation. Mine is quite good in the EL area – but a lot more is possible, which I wouldn’t want to burden my family or myself with. There’s a limit somewhere...

PS: I don’t mean that all my EL is better than that of craftsmen – again, this is being insinuated. But there are certain tasks (your "idiot work") that a layman CAN perform more carefully.

PPS: And yes, you’re right: in the shell, apart from interior plaster, I saved the most money.

Sorry – I can’t believe that; the person pulling the strings is the poorest Sxx on the construction site. If you mean something like KNX, of course, it’s a different matter. Before you compulsively reply immediately every time, you should perhaps first let what you’ve read sink in. At least try to understand it – in context. Aside from electrics: €3,000 for how many hours…? Not...? That’s a nice closing sentence. Rhineland regards

But honestly... A thousand here, a thousand there... Sure, it's peanuts when you spend half a million in total, but still, I have to work for several days, if not weeks, for that!!! Simple example: Electrical offer 17K euros. We had a buddy who did the inspection and otherwise did it ourselves. Including materials and everything involved, we didn't pay 10K euros! Peanuts? Sorry, not for me! But of course, you have to be ready to sacrifice quite a bit of your free time for a certain period. And honestly, what are 10 months compared to a whole lifetime??? We certainly wouldn't build new every year in this way.
