So, I dug up the thread again, just to say:

WE ARE DONE.

We spent a year and 10 months mostly renovating the house ourselves, a lot of sweat, tears, and a bit of blood and a broken bone later – it’s done. Sure, a few small things are still missing, but we’ll handle those easily on the side.

Would I do it again? Two amateurs, not two left hands, but still little knowledge at the beginning... Yes. But very, very differently and definitely with less (self-imposed) time pressure. For whatever reason, we set ourselves the goal of being finished in seven months (now I can really laugh about that) – absolutely impossible.

At the end of February 2022, we erected our house ourselves, and during that year we were super motivated. We really spent every free minute on the construction site. Everything that could burn the house down or flood it – electrical, heating, plumbing – we had done by professionals. Drywall in the sloping ceilings in the bathroom and in my room as well. Tiles in the bathroom and ground floor (except for the kitchen, which we tiled ourselves and decided that we can’t and don’t want to do that). Everything else we did ourselves. Then February 2023 brought Covid for the first time and it totally knocked us out. Our pug construction manager Lotta also passed away in March, and the grief was very heavy.
Additionally, in March and April, there was a lot of stress with handing over my apartment. From May to the end of August, we basically did nothing in the house, the air was out. But from the end of August until the end of December, we gave it our all again.

We are super happy and contrary to some opinions here in the forum, life in our little house is really, really wonderful. Thanks for the support and kind words here from the forum and less thanks to the people who like to generalize a lot here and project their own views onto others.

Remember, personal taste varies, even if you don’t like it yourself – no reason to behave badly.
A few small glimpses inside the house, almost all with wide-angle because the house is small:

And our garden

On the side, we have also already created many wonderful things in our garden. Seeds, beds, wild hedges, beetle cellar, reptile castle, deadwood hedge, water modules, and much more. We have a natural garden according to the Hortus concept, and since this year also with awards from Nabu for a bat-friendly garden, and we have been able to observe an incredible number of animals.

I will mostly be less active in the forum and wish you all the best.

[TILEQUOTE="Holzhäuschen, post: 651387, member: 52889"]Tiles in the bathroom and ground floor (except for the , we tiled that ourselves and decided that we can't and don't want to do it).[/TILEQUOTE] I don't quite follow: did you start tiling the kitchen and then decide to commission someone else to finish it?

Yep, we had planned to tile the ground floor ourselves and only have the bathroom upstairs done (upstairs there are solid wood planks, laid by ourselves). But that was one of the things we found so extremely annoying and at which we were also really incompetent :D. Since our bathroom was already finished and we liked the work well, we asked the tiler if he would do the rest. He did.

We were lucky to have understanding tradespeople. Especially when there was no proper clearance on the construction site again, or other things didn’t work out one hundred percent.

So, now it's off to the garden forum? Have fun in the new house, lots of comfort, and all the best with the garden layout. And who knows? Maybe someday there will be a chubby one on the carpet again ;)

I have one more question. How much did the house construction cost you?

The house is, if I measure it, 9*7.5 m, right?

Your house has turned out fantastic! I follow you on Instagram and have to say, this house is one of the most beautiful houses I know. Harmonious, cozy, comfortable. I know a similar wooden house that stands at the end of a newly built area. You drive through a clone settlement in white-anthracite with robot lawns and thuja-stone-desert-gabion front gardens towards an oasis of nature with wooden houses. That amazes me every time again. I don’t know your neighborhood, but I can imagine it’s similar there. Inside, too, your house is a knockout. The colors, the wallpapers, the types of wood, the tiles... everything just fits. And so wonderfully real and authentic, unlike the polished social media setups. For that, you won’t get any discount codes from you :P Enjoy your time in your house!
