And just throwing a roll of fiber optic cable into the street does not make a network by any means. If the stuff is not connected at least to collocation rooms, then no one wants to lease or buy it. Politicians really have no clue about telecommunications line construction. This is completely new territory for Angela. But the last sentence fails for the same reason, see above ;-)

How is the 4G/5G reception in the region? Since purchasing the property in 2018, we have been waiting for our fiber optic connection (the empty conduit is already in place) and moved in last week...

As a precaution during construction, I had a Cat7 cable installed to the roof and am currently using it with a Zyxel LTE7480 router and a Telekom Speedbox XL contract. The Zyxel NR7101 5G is now available, but I am still holding off on purchasing it since the LTE performance is sufficient.

We have a line of sight to a 4G/5G mast (about 2km away) and I have not measured less than 220 Mbit down / 75 Mbit up so far...

That definitely sounds like a good temporary alternative or fallback solution. Telekom has not yet expanded its 5G network into the new development area. Vodafone has (although I keep in mind that Vodafone provides less bandwidth).

Has anyone had experience with FTTH through Telekom as a "special order"? The website advertises the connection at about €15,000 (which I find outrageous). However, this is also due to civil engineering work. If the city already has empty conduits in the ground, then these may no longer be necessary.

When I moved into my current house in 2014, there was neither cable nor fiber optic, and initially the traditional copper wire offered barely about 6 Mbit/s. In 2015, vectoring was upgraded to 100 Mbit/s, and in 2018 extended to 250 Mbit/s. Currently, the rollout of fiber optic is in its final stages, so starting next month 1000 Mbit/s will be possible. I see a very clear trend here, even though this is usually communicated unclearly at first (if at all). Most providers simply do not want to commit in advance.
