Hello,

since we are in the middle of planning, I have another question right away:

Is it sensible to move the office to the basement? Our floor plan includes an 8.5 m² office on the ground floor. Unfortunately, we still lack space for a wardrobe, and the storage room at 2.6 m² is actually too small for us. Therefore, we are considering whether to turn the office into a utility room so that we can at least store everything well and without crowding, use the storage room as a walk-in closet for jackets and shoes, and use the 15 m² basement room as an office.

The office would really only be for our folders (insurance, bank statements, etc.) and to take care of paperwork every few weeks; so no one actually "works" there except for the usual things. We also rarely have overnight guests, and if we do, at this size you could probably fit a bed in there anyway.

What do you think of this idea? The attic has the two children's rooms, bedroom, and bathroom, so there is no space there either.

Does this idea make sense or is it rather disadvantageous in practice?

Had the same problems and now the office is located in the heated basement with a basement window. 8.5m² is really quite tight after all...

yes, the cellar is to be built so that it could also be living space, therefore also with underfloor heating

So, I will now assume our current situation: the office is in the basement. And upstairs, in some corner, invoices and documents pile up until someone bothers to carry them down and then sort them out downstairs. The office was actually supposed to be used so that my husband could occasionally work from home. Unfortunately, it is completely unsuitable for this because he has absolutely no mobile reception in the basement, which he needs for his work. By the way, our basement office has a normal-sized window with a light well (not a basement window with a light shaft) and underfloor heating. In the new house, we will have the office on the ground floor. There we can collect the mail directly in the office and we will have mobile reception. We would no longer want to have our office in the basement. It’s just too inconvenient.
