Thanks Gabriele. Yep, the "risk" is always there... Although even with an EXISTING property, you never know 100% what will happen. A friend now has moisture in the basement after 2 years... Additional costs about €50,000-70,000. But as you say, that can also happen with a prefab house provider, with an apartment, or elsewhere... You definitely have to see where you stand and what you can do!!! Thanks for your words!We originally wanted an existing property as well. Upgraded for the next 20 years - and then our statistical lifespan would be fulfilled - but in the end, it would have cost us more than the Heinz-von-Heiden bungalow that we eventually built. But the trouble we have now with the construction defects makes me doubt the quality of our decision. With an existing property, at least you know that the construction defects belong entirely to you and you might be able to snag a particularly nice location. You get what you pay for. Certainly with a new build, with an existing property you can also get lucky. Today, I would look for an existing property. With the budget you mentioned, we still didn't make it.
