In the end, I had to make a compromise with the roof because no roofer gave me an offer. I have now covered the roof myself using 56 aluminum sheets about 45x55cm each, a pack of sheet metal screws, and 16 lids from small cable ducts. Only the top layer (8 sheets) and a few finishing touches like additional screws and end plates are left. The holes are of course made slightly larger than the screws so that the sheets can move a bit. The plastic strips provide some distance between the sheet metal and the wood (ventilation).

Phew... every Scandinavian will collectively turn in their grave tonight. Beautiful wood and then aluminum sheeting hammered on top? Why? You don’t build a beautiful wooden terrace and then hammer a corrugated roof over it, do you? That brings tears to the eyes of every wood fan... The picture of the Zugspitze is fitting. In terms of color, in terms of material... The aluminum roof completely ruins the cozy atmosphere of a barrel sauna made of quite noble wood. A shame, really... And in bright sun, I really don’t want to live next to you. You’d go blind if the angle is right and you look at your sauna...

well, your opinion is respected. But that's not corrugated sheet metal, plus the metal is matte and not polished shiny (it’s also roughly sanded) I would have preferred wood too, especially since cedar wood can actually do that. But it is not watertight due to its construction and a sauna that is always soaking wet is no solution either (risk of mold inside). And: the Zugspitze picture had a bitumen roof... Do you really find that prettier than aluminum sheet? That was a no-go for me. Convex aluminum standing seam sheet metal (my wish) unfortunately no roofer nearby could offer me that and unfortunately it would have ended up over 2.5K with self-installation, which it currently isn’t worth to me. And finally: fortunately, it only has to please me ;). I have always placed very little value on the “opinions” of others about my taste (women, clothes etc.)

So, the roof is now sealed and all the screws are in. Only the sanding work is left, and I also want to make the edges look nice.
