I am a bit late, but I doubt that the sauna will remain watertight for long without an additional roof in rain and snow. A wine barrel is only watertight if it is always full and not standing in the rain, let alone sideways. A metal roof can be made by any tinsmith in any material, but it won’t be cheap. You can put flat roof foil on if bitumen shingles are not desired. This foil is gray
Morning,
the sauna is already on its way and will arrive next week. For those interested: I actually got it now for only €3300 including delivery ;)
It is a kit, cedar wood, 3m long (outside) and inside about 2.4m + a small "terrace" in front. Diameter about 2.1m. The sauna stove will probably be 9KW (because more energy "fizzles out" outside and I prefer it to be rather hot). I have currently chosen the Harvia Kubic. Foil is out of the question. The sauna is supposed to become a "showpiece."
I have already spoken with a specialist company regarding a metal roof. My dream roof would be a barrel roof made of aluminum (in the "Rimova style").
Most likely it will be one made of self-laying metal shingles. I am still researching what is actually sensible and feasible.
A roof cover made of wooden shingles, also from red cedar, costs about 1K (material only). I could also well imagine that...
