oh. That would definitely be too many grout lines for my wife.

With the 1.20m long tiles, on one side we only have 2 grout lines, of which only one is visible because the other one disappears behind the tall cabinet, and on the other side we have only one grout line because then the window starts. Unfortunately, the tiler started from the wrong side, so the grout line is exactly behind the stove, where the plastering work is greatest. That is the only drawback.

Hello, I actually haven't thought about such a huge tile yet. What is the advantage compared to glass? And what is the price range? I've only heard that large tiles are quite expensive compared to smaller ones and also more difficult and time-consuming to lay.

Price-wise, I can only tell you to a limited extent, as we built already 8 years ago. The pure tile price should start at around €90 for 2 tiles, if I look online. Those are m² prices from €65. So no unrealistic prices, and you don’t need huge amounts anyway. To prevent the tile from falling off again, a wooden strip was first screwed underneath ours and then presumably chiseled in at an angle again. They are quite heavy after all. As a tiler, you probably need a second person for that. A large glass pane also weighs accordingly and you probably won’t be able to install it alone either. Advantage and disadvantage compared to glass... mmhh... good question. I think with a slightly marbled tile, splashes are not as noticeable as on glass. With glass, I could also imagine that you have to polish more so that the nice gloss effect works. In the past, a tile backsplash was common. The disadvantage, from my point of view, was the many joints where dirt can still settle. But with large tile formats, you only have that occasionally, and with calibrated tiles and a good tiler, the joints are also extremely narrow. Depending on what is visible, you may additionally need finishing edges on the tiles. You don’t need that with glass.

Aside from the fact that it looks stylish. But when I see the price, our tile backsplash must have been significantly cheaper.

Another functional and cost-effective solution: We simply painted the walls with latex paint and installed a stainless steel plate behind the cooktop.

in I have pictured my kitchen backsplash. It is back-painted glass measuring about 2m x 0.8m. Including measuring, matching the color (from an existing piece of furniture in green) to installation on-site, it only cost 300€ at the local glass dealer. There are no holes for sockets or similar, and it is "regular" glass. ESG would be more expensive but in my opinion not necessary. If it breaks, ESG will be put in front ;)
