Not everyone just sits half-naked on the couch. ;) But we often have 24-25 degrees in the living room in winter. Either from the stove or purely from solar gains, like the past few days. Direct sun and warmth, wonderful.

We operated a water-based fireplace in a KfW-70 bungalow for 11 years. This fireplace had a rated output of 10 kW, of which 80% went into the 1000-liter storage tank and 20%, that is 2 kW, remained in the living room/kitchen. We used the fireplace almost daily, but the underfloor heating in the living room was off for that, and after firing up the second time at the latest, the door to the hallway was opened.
So it can work with a water-based fireplace and a large room with many windows. Then many additional costs arise. In our case, besides a large storage tank, there was also the gas boiler and the solar system with tube collectors.

Thank you for your responses. Our home provider sent an answer to my question today about whether they see a possibility.

Here:
With KfW40, a fireplace is basically rather counterproductive due to the very good insulation; there is apparently even a legal consideration to ban fireplaces in single-family homes.

One can possibly compensate with an infrared panel. Maybe there are even displays whose front panel is an infrared panel?

I have a masonry stove. (In a KfW 40 new building) In the evening, 12 kg of wood goes in, fire for 3 hours and radiant heat for another 12 hours. A very even, pleasant heat! But for the concept, you need more data than just the KfW standard. Important are, for example, room size at the installation location, masonry, ceiling (concrete?) We have a constant 22.5°C everywhere in the house (except bedrooms) with +/-0.5°C. When using the stove, a cozy 25°C for the evening. Our masonry and solid ceiling, however, protect us from this overheating your general contractor talks about.

Hello everyone,

since my question fits quite well here, I didn’t want to start a new topic.
So far, the topic has always been about the KfW 40 standard.
If you build solidly with a wall thickness of about 36.5 cm in the KfW 70 or Energy Saving Ordinance 2016 standard (which I understand to be the same?), can you then plan for a fireplace (5 KW?) without fear that the room will overheat? A air-to-water heat pump is used for heating (underfloor heating).
The open space (living room, dining room, kitchen) where the fireplace is located is about 60 m² in size.

Best regards
