Just for understanding... when we bought our house, it was a two-family house with the mentioned two fuse boxes, 4 electricity meters (utility power and heating power), 2 front doors, and so on. When we applied for the renovation loan from the KFW, we asked if we could receive the funding twice since there were two residential units, which were definitely used and occupied by a couple, without renting out! I can say that the KFW did not see this as an attempt at fraud and they did not call the police. Instead, they said, yes, that is possible! So it is not subsidy fraud or any other morally reprehensible behavior; we could have applied for it that way but then we took less than the funding amount for one residential unit. So instead of 150,000 euros only 60,000 euros. So if the KFW itself has no problem with it, where is the problem now?

By the way, we clearly stated that we would convert the two-family house into a single-family house and the KFW said that the amount of funding only applies to what was present at the time of application. So once again, taking advantage of two residential units and then turning it into one was also not subsidy fraud but completely legitimate.

That is exactly where the emphasis lies. Owning/buying or planning and also building a Zweifamilienhaus.
