Yes, with my sparse information it would of course also be difficult to find out ;) You are of course right, the staircase would no longer have to remain in a corner location... but it will probably come down to that, since the staircase is located in the north, but there is a great view towards the east/south, and one would probably plan an extension in that direction for that reason. I first wanted to gather some visual information for myself, even though I would already like to fully dive into the planning phase. In due time, I would then also open a proper post with all the necessary documents. I have to admit I don’t know exactly how to do it right. The house belongs to me, but is currently still inhabited by someone from our family (80+) . So how do you do it right? Do I only start planning when the house is habitable, regretting why I haven’t dealt with the matter long ago? But if I start now, I can already hear the calls that maybe you should only tackle such things when it is really ready to go. As the saying goes, whatever you do, it’s wrong

Daydreaming is allowed. As long as I live, it was certain that the Old House would be demolished. There were always daydreams. You don’t have to show up with architects and craftsmen as long as the house is inhabited.

The factual framework already exists (plot and legal building framework), as well as the house (with, unless it was built under Napoleon or even the Romans, also a file at the building authority). There is no need to go and measure anything personally first.

My mother-in-law has a very similar floor plan. The house is located in Franconia and was built in the post-war years. Each wall is made of a different building material (whatever was available at the time), with a rammed earth floor topped with tiles in the basement. However, it was built as a semi-detached house. In total, the floor plan exists about 10 times on the street, partly as semi-detached houses, partly somewhat larger as single-family homes. About 10-12 years ago, it was renovated, during which the wall between the living room and bedroom (the two large rooms) was removed. So, the ground floor now consists of living/dining room, kitchen, hallway, and bathroom. It was originally planned as a two-family house, which is why there is still a door in the hallway (where the stairs end).

Why don’t you want to start planning already? You are unnecessarily losing time if the construction is about to begin. What are the dimensions 9*9.5m?

No matter what, new construction or renovation - why do you need a similar floor plan? You redesign an existing building according to your own needs. You don’t need to look at other floor plans with a similar stair position for that. It’s there, so just get started!
