Definitely take a closer look at the building fabric before you do anything/plan further. We will probably demolish my mother-in-law's house and build something else in its place to rent out once she is no longer here. It's a shame that the charm of the area is being lost (in the past, all 1000m2 plots still didn’t have a house in the garden, today only partially). But the building fabric is just too bad in the case of my mother-in-law. What would need to be invested would never pay off, not to mention that it meets today’s living requirements. Damp basement (formerly desired that way, today with mold problems), drafty walls, very high additional costs, ...

Village community after the harvest. In the early 20s, we partially removed the slope by hand. The excavation was used to fill the path to the neighboring village. It was a different time

No question that we would have everything examined more closely beforehand. I’m not an expert in the field ... but I think the building fabric at least at first glance doesn’t give any reason for complaint. But that is limited to fleeting observations on my part and trusting the craftsmanship skills of the previous residents (carpenter & mason). But as we all know, you can never really be sure. Even if I were to plan here now and it turned out not to work later – everything to do with architecture has always given me joy and I’ve just been waiting too long for this moment – in the worst case I would have planned for nothing, but learned a lot in the process. ;)

I not only find it nice that people worked hand in hand back then – but also that this has not been forgotten to this day! So it’s already been 100 years.

Well, that’s theory. In practice, with two kids at home, the drafting could only take ages right now ...

You’re not supposed to fully elaborate it anyway. Sketches are enough for now. You’ll get help here. ;)

You had written that there are still the old plans.
