Is satellite television still relevant?

Netflix and Co are online video rental stores. You pay, for example, €11 per month and can watch all available movies and series at any time. Very very very comfortable. Amazon Prime is a bit different. It has the same principle as Netflix, but in addition offers movies and series to rent or buy for an extra fee.

I watch Real versus Bayern easily via Sky Go. The public broadcasters have a media library with live programming.

Online is very comfortable. You have what you want at the time you want. I think the big change is yet to come, but a trend is recognizable.

I fully agree with . One thing is TV, and the other is watching movies on demand. Both complement each other very well, especially with children or when the 8:15 PM program is only good for falling asleep. TV over the internet is nothing other than a replacement for cable TV. Predetermined channel selection for monthly fees. Surely, a transformation is taking place, successful for example through live sports channels. But if I’m not interested in football, Formula 1, and boxing, then free satellite TV is often enough, possibly plus Amazon, Maxdome, Netflix,...

The future will surely look different at some point (!). But it will still take a long time before someone pulls the plug on today’s free TV.

TV, video streaming and media libraries support each other, but do not replace each other. And that will still last for a very long time. Just as many people still have a landline phone in addition to their smartphone.

I am currently watching an interesting documentary about Amazon (man is watching soccer): I would never have looked for that in a media library, so I wouldn't have seen it either.

My husband and I used to like watching the summary of a series on Saturdays, which ZDF offered shortened on its own on TV. Not anymore since this year. Then we turned on the media library, but it’s not as much fun as being there “live” at the broadcast time.

I catch myself often spending more than a quarter of an hour searching for a movie on Prime before I decide. It’s not because of me , but because of the overabundance.

Also in media libraries or the apps we sometimes search until we're exhausted to find a documentary from the last few days.

....and what I miss, I just miss. Life is more than TV. 1to1. at the moment.

Since it's about resale prices and use by children, of those under 30 today, hardly any still use TV via cable/DVBT. Let alone satellite. And landline phones? What is that?

Almost everyone writing here grew up with linear TV, modems, and rotary dials. But no one grows up like that anymore.
