Yes, I therefore have exactly 2sqm less wall space available in the house. In return, direct access to the garage with many square meters of additional space :p

You forget the walking path. Where you walk through, nothing can be placed. No shelf, no washing machine,...
But that is actually the smaller point. With the direct connection, you have excluded all possibilities where the garage is not directly placed at a certain spot beside the house.

We have our technical and storage room directly next to the front door. The extra drinks are in there, a crate of beer stays fixed in the kitchen. I keep some tools in there, the rest in the garden shed. It's less than 5 meters from the front door to the garden shed and most tools are needed outside anyway. Well planned, you don't necessarily have to take the long way round to get to a garage.

We also have a direct access. It fit very well with the property and serves, among other things, as a cellar substitute.

The most important thing for a real man is the garage. Nowadays, there are already very nice men's kitchens from Sonic and various other manufacturers that leave nothing to be desired. For this reason, I would also assign the garage the appropriate status.

The biggest mistake is to build the garage too deep and too small. So here always drip instead of pour.

My garage in the form of a barn, by the way, with 200 sqm of floor space, 4m height, and a still existing upper floor with another 200 sqm of space was sufficient at first, but by now I would make it a little bigger. Not all toys fit inside.

I will probably have to build a small vehicle hall on another property. Over the course of a lifetime, many wishes arise.
Motorhome, boat, vintage car, convertible, tractor, cars, maybe a lift, etc. You should be prepared for that.

A door to the house is always good and also practical. If you have to get a beer from the fridge in summer, short distances are indispensable. Although a proper garage should also have a fridge filled with beer.

That also depends on what the property allows. It is not possible on every property, and on some properties, the garage right next to the house is perfect. I would not generalize that.

We also have a side entrance door from the utility room not directly into the garage, but only 1 meter from the garage, pointing towards the garage, the garden, the tool shed. That was one of the best investments in the new house; I wouldn’t want to miss it. All supplies have a direct path into the utility room, laundry can be hung out immediately in the garden, dirty items from the garden go straight into the utility room, and you can quickly wash your hands in the utility room after working outside. For that, I gladly give up less than 1 square meter of space. I would always do it that way again and not have direct access to the garage because a second entrance near the garage is more flexible.

Yes, we have planned our garage accordingly - I can push my Robinson helicopter directly in from the garden at the back. If I still have to get the license for light aircraft, I will have to see about buying the neighbors' properties to set up a runway there. An initial inquiry with the city is already underway.
