So once the area. TV on the wall, 2 times front+sub by the TV and then 2 times rear up on the ceiling. That was the plan. We don't want to lower the ceiling. We'll end up at 270, that should stay like that. On the ceiling will be smoke detectors, access point, track system from the window to the stairs over the dining area (possibly the table will be arranged differently) and recessed spotlights and a large ceiling lamp over the living area. The ceiling is already getting packed.....

It's perfect for a setup on stands behind the couch (or beside it at the back). You'll only get annoyed with anything else. The stands are really very delicate, and the speakers are rather tiny as well.

If it has to be the ceiling, how about a power rail on the ceiling with mounting brackets for the speakers? Then it might look a bit nicer, especially if no sockets are also supposed to go on the ceiling, and you could align the speakers better.

Sonos would probably be the last thing I would choose now for a 5.1 system, but you could have everything you want planned in advance. Just talk to the respective planner. They can then install the desired pots in the ceiling so that the statics are still correct but you have the necessary diameters and depths.

However, I would also recommend "real" satellites on stands or just stick to 2.1.

Hi ,

so I see the following alternatives:
Either what says. I would add that you could possibly work with a very narrow sideboard that you place behind the sofa and which is roughly the same height as the sofa. In home theater operation, I would then actually point the speakers to the ceiling or even backwards. This creates a kind of dipole effect, i.e. a diffuse sound effect at the listening position. Alternatively, this could also serve as stereo sound at the dining table.
Getting power there might be more of a problem, but maybe you can install floor sockets under the sofa?
Then my alternatives A and B: Here I would suggest wall mounting at 1.4-1.5m (acoustically better, or just above 2m for the look).
Either with an adjustable wall bracket or a small shelf, very plain in wall color, on which you can also align the speaker to different listening positions.

A would be better for home theater.
B would be better to achieve even sound distribution in music mode (while eating or at a party). You could also work with tall side tables/console tables or similar here (about 1-1.2m height).

How high is the cabinet/display case at the top of the plan in the dining area? If not too high, you can also place a speaker there and only need to install the other one on the wall.
I would avoid installation in or directly under the ceiling. Acoustically it is simply not optimal, but it can be done.
Working without a center is also possible, but then dialogue intelligibility is limited and the listening experience is very position dependent. The so-called phantom center can only be optimally calibrated for one listening position. As I said, it should be possible with Sonos to define a One as the center. Whether it fits under or above your TV, I obviously can’t say. Ideally, all front speakers should be placed at the same height.

Best regards

Tolentino

Off topic: How does that work? As far as I know, only with Playbar or similar as center and front (right/left) as well as 2x rear.

we had the same plan,
new house, large living/dining area, cables laid 4mm2 and Bose cube speakers from the old apartment connected with bass box,
result: too small, sounds forced, even 4 or 6 Sonos are too small.

if you like powerful music or home cinema, consider now if you want to invest in sound,
our solution now is Nuvero140 front and Nuvero60 rear, the rears on the kitchen wall,
the effect would be the room is full of cinema/music,
there is also all this as a wireless system integrable into the Sonos system
