Why shouldn't that work? It is quite common in old buildings as an access to the storage cellar. The straight staircase is above the cellar entrance, right? You don't want to jump onto a straight staircase from the side?
Exactly:
The cellar staircase can be spiral at the stairway descent from the ground floor.

You just have to be careful with the head clearance at the cellar stairs.
