Hello, due to limited space, I am wondering if I can combine a Faktum base cabinet only 40 cm wide with an induction cooktop about 30.2 cm wide and 5.9 cm high with 2 cooking zones. Is this generally possible? For this, I assume the top drawer would have to be made unusable. In other words, can I somehow replace the top drawer with a panel or is it enough to fix it so that it does not open? I am grateful for any constructive input. Best regards Steve

Hello Steve06!

I think you have probably already compared the dimensions of the cutout for the cooktop of about 27 x 50 cm with the factum outer dimension of 39.8 x 60 cm and the estimated inner dimension of 35.8 x 56 cm.

At Siemens home appliances there are exact drawings for this device for installation with the minimum distances, etc.

Just as a note and OT. I simply find it great with Siemens home appliances that you can find all the necessary information including the operating manual directly and without much effort immediately and that it is available. Ikea still has a lot of work to do in this regard. Because so far I have never been able to find corresponding documents for IKEA appliances at IKEA. Expecting the consumer to somehow find out under the IKEA name how the device is called at Whirlpool is a scavenger hunt and has never led me to the desired information... and in my opinion it is the worst kind of customer service. But back to your question.

From the minimum clearance areas (cutout width 27 cm plus 4 right plus 4 cm left = 35 cm) everything should fit. Only you absolutely have to make sure there is sufficient rear ventilation. So the factum cabinet directly against the wall at the back is out of the question! But in any case I would NEVER push the cabinets directly against the wall. It is always advisable to keep a distance of 5 to 10 cm between the rear wall and the cabinet. Keywords are: sockets, cooker boxes, faucets, water drain, etc. If you attach solid wooden battens along the entire length to the kitchen wall at the right height, it is also much easier to screw the cabinets at the back. Another effect very important to me is that you get a significantly deeper and thus better usable countertop. And always remember to let the countertop protrude at least 3 cm in front of the fronts, otherwise spilled soup runs directly from the countertop into the drawers!

Furthermore, I would basically make the two upper drawers into a single one. At Ikea you can get connectors for the drawer fronts (nicely ask service: "I lost this at the sink base cabinet!" oops: these parts are not available for purchase like that or order in advance from Ikea service, they will be delivered free of charge by post, but it takes 2 to 3 weeks). With that you can screw the two upper drawer fronts together as one. This is intended by IKEA for the pull-out under the sink.

This way you can create a tall drawer for taller cooking utensils and even keep the necessary minimum distance between the cooktop and the drawer.

Good luck. fotokatze

Wow, thank you so much for the super detailed answer with sketches and everything. So it seems quite doable if you put some thought into it and customize the solution. The tip about the distance in depth to the wall is really a good one. The question is whether IKEA countertops come in the appropriate depth, or if you have to get them elsewhere.

I checked, the IKEA countertops all seem to have a depth of 62cm, which is a bit tight if you want to leave some distance. Do you have a tip? Maybe it also makes sense, given the small size of the countertop for me (length only about 1.40 m), to get a granite countertop, which would also last longer.

What depth of countertop would you specifically recommend?

Personlig countertops are available in lengths from 10 to 400 cm and depths from 10 to 124 cm. Prices and delivery times can be found in the kitchen department. I drilled ventilation holes in the bottom of my base cabinet and therefore did not need any distance from the wall or a cutout at the top of the back panel. I prefer two separate drawers, but you need to know what you want to store and what is more practical for you. The minimum distance between the top of the countertop and the drawer is specified as 65 mm. 38 mm countertop + 27 mm gap between drawer frame and countertop add up exactly to the required 65 mm, so perhaps a drawer can still be installed. However, the drawer depth could be problematic; in the IKEA standard depth, the drawer might not fully slide in because of the power cable. The 35 cm deep version would then be the right choice. If you leave out (or have to leave out) the drawer, you can attach the normal drawer front with brackets.

Hello Steve06!

...you’re welcome!

We have a depth of 70 cm and are very happy with it. However, I had the countertop made by a small carpentry/DIY store near us. For what I think was little money, they cut the entire countertop, made the cutouts for the cooktop and the round sink, drilled the hole for the soap dispenser, and also delivered the two slabs—one a bit over 3 m long and one just over 2 m long. They also put on great edge banding on all the edges. After placing the order, it took three days until the two slabs were in the kitchen. I didn’t compare it with IKEA, but I had the feeling it definitely wasn’t more expensive. The delivered quality was perfect and everything fit.

Of course, when doing something like this, you are the master of your own fate and quickly throw a few hundred euros down the drain if something doesn’t fit. But if you don’t feel confident about a “customized” kitchen like this, it’s better not to do it with IKEA.

We had thought about granite for a long time... but finally, because it had to go quickly and for the price of a granite slab, you can get a new carpenter (artificial) wood slab with changing designs every two years. Some friends have granite and we always had the feeling it looks like a tombstone! So in the end it simply became a white, quite ordinary countertop.

You will make the right decision!

Have fun and success customizing! fotokatze

To cut a long story short. Ikea plans the installation of the cooktop in a drawer cabinet as follows:

Top drawer blind. Behind the lower end of the panel, a shelf board with a depth of 35cm is installed, so the remaining drawers are fully usable. The back panel is removed. Done. If you want to be completely sure, you actually make a cutout in the bottom.

No moving away. Or similar. Unnecessary cost drivers. Overdeep panels, elaborate fastening of the base cabinets with mostly adventurous wall mounting constructions. And how do you realize such ideas with a domsjö countertop basin?

Oh, by the way, Fotokatze, if you praise Siemens like that, what does the aforementioned device cost? Do you also have a 5-year warranty with it? Sorry, no way. You can request the necessary data online or have it printed out at the retailer from the kitchen department or customer service. There, you will definitely get well-founded statements and tips for proper installation, or maybe even an idea of how to use your kitchen space even more optimally.

Well.
