Interesting discussion

I tend to agree more with Mycrafts' view, the goal of home automation is precisely the automation of certain processes; if I want to replicate a classic installation with bus components, I am simply wasting a lot of money and it is not really "smart."
A fully automated process in the house, however, is also over the top and rather turns into a form of patronization by the house. I just don’t want the north roller shutter to be at 50%, the lights dimmed, and the phone muted every time I watch a movie. But I also don’t want to have 7 switches for the blinds on the wall in the living area.

The only room in my house that is completely without switches (or buttons) is the guest bathroom; in the other rooms many are equipped with presence detectors but I still have the option to manually intervene via buttons on the wall.
Light on/off and roller shutter up/down is controlled in the classic way next to the door in all rooms. Only in the living area have I refrained from this due to the aforementioned 7 blinds; instead, I have a touch panel on the wall that can be used to control things if desired.

Where do your statements contradict mine? Of course, the goal of home automation is to automate processes. But it is not the goal to save switches. (Which is not the goal of the bus system anyway, it is only a component of home automation). I was talking about the fact that one must not over-automate. Also that manual intervention must be possible. And above all, it is not about saving switches.

No! It's delicious, please don't stop! Write about what you have automated. My husband thought of an alarm system. When it is triggered, all the shutters go down, the outdoor lighting system starts blinking in a circle around the house, and all the lights in the house turn on. Of course, there is also a signal to the phone. I then told him that after the first false alarm we would be known throughout the city and asked if he really wanted that.

I am happy to answer your questions...

We have automated everything possible without an extra home server, etc.

I have already written about the weather station; it sends data to the BUS, and then the shutters go up in the morning and down in the evening... but not at fixed times, rather as soon as the sun is up/gone... on weekends a bit later, because you sleep longer, etc.

When it rains, the display in the hallway signals and reminds you to take an umbrella... and it also sends information to the garden irrigation.

When there is strong sunlight and/or the "TV is on," the south side is shaded.

If a shutter is down and you want to open it, e.g., to go to the terrace, you have to open the window, and then the shutter goes up... it goes down automatically after a preset time for all windows... except for the terrace, where further conditions must be met (so you don't lock yourself out).

When you come home and enter the property, the lights in the entrance area turn on.

When there is something new in the mailbox, the display in the hallway shows MAIL!

The entire house (140 sqm, 11 rooms) operates with 7 control points and two displays (hallway and bedroom), and this was not my idea but a recommendation from many homeowners and pioneers in home automation... because you no longer need all those light switches when you have an automated house... At the beginning of 2014, voice control will probably be introduced, which will put at least 2 more control points out of commission...

Otherwise, there is an alarm or information when windows are open/tilted or the front door is open/locked...

At night, the lights in the bathrooms, etc. come on dimmed to 60%, so you don’t get hit with full brightness if you have to get up...

Kitchen, guest WC, hallway, bathroom, and gallery lights turn on/off via motion detectors.

The heating system runs separately from the BUS, but it is set so that you don’t have to do anything and there is always at least 22°C in the house. No matter what the weather outside is like... except in summer, when at about 28° outside temperature it also gets warmer inside.

The whole system can also be controlled via iPhone/iPad.

Later, other automations are planned, but for now, this is enough. Over the past years, I have met homeowners and planners/engineers from the field, and when you see what they sometimes manage, you are really impressed.

Brilliant! Can you give some details on how you implemented the whole thing? Which hardware, which system in general, approximate additional costs compared to the conventional system. Did you implement it right from the start or prepare everything and then expand it gradually?

I'm really interested, as I am planning something like that too.
