Good evening,

we are currently in the house planning phase and I am trying to gather as much input as possible. At the moment, I am dealing with the topic of alarm systems. We are planning without smarthome, so no window or door contacts are planned. Our general contractor has an RC2N standard on the ground floor. Now the consideration is to extend this with video surveillance around the perimeter. What are your experiences? Has anyone done something similar? Or would you tend to go for a "proper" alarm system?
Thank you very much in advance!

The feeling of security is always subjective.
A good video surveillance system with detection will probably exceed your budget. It is also more of a supplement than a stand-alone.
Lamps with motion detectors bring more there, as does a dog. We have already discussed this topic several times.
RC2N does not have burglar-resistant glazing.
A "proper" alarm system only makes sense with the appropriate contacts and sensors.
Without knowing your goal or feeling of security and your budget, recommendations will be difficult.
Better to upgrade the glass, provide lighting, and avoid creating hiding places.

First of all, the question is whether you live in an area where this makes sense? If it is important to you, then I would install safety glass and RC3 for the windows on the ground floor. Nobody will get in that quickly. The front door accordingly as well.

An alarm system is probably unnecessary. Better to set up a small legal! defense arsenal just in case...

I am skeptical about the glass – the friendly police advisor told us the same after our break-in last year. And the glass at our place wasn’t damaged, but the patio door was, despite RC2. On the other hand, with my brother they first tried to pry the door open and then threw a stone through the glass. Now he also has RC2 (without N). I consider lighting, attention, and eliminating blind spots overall more important, although that is not always feasible structurally.

Pre-installing the appropriate sensors in the windows remains affordable, but saves unpleasant retrofitting solutions later.

Automatic gun? Otherwise you have to be at home too, and then they tend not to come by anyway.

Ok, thank you very much. I was thinking of a budget of 3000-4000€. I hoped that with this it would be possible to get something reasonably decent. I thought the P4 glazing is integrated in RC2N?
