Since there are always countless good tips here in the forum... We have bought a house and would like to renovate it ourselves. When planning the floor plan, we are considering whether our idea is sensible and what we may have overlooked. Therefore, I ask for tips or suggestions for improvement. Thank you very much in advance!

Where does the staircase lead? What kind of rooms are used there? And do parents remain parents and children children? A few words and sentences about the house and about you should definitely be mentioned. It makes a difference whether the house is meant to accommodate an older couple or a family of four.

Tip:
before you distribute the independent questions here in the forum, which are all related, you should create one large thread specifically for your conversion/renovation/refurbishment project with all the information.
What do you want to "only" rebuild? I see a load-bearing wall that you want to remove, then the question about the balcony. All of this is nothing for laypeople alone at home; a professional should be called in. It concerns structural issues, possibly energetic renovations, optimizations that can cost a lot of money. Without expertise, it may be that you waste money.

Why are you spreading this over two threads? ( )

I assume (see aforementioned side thread) that it is a residential basement, so we are apparently dealing with a bungalow on a hillside.
The TE's projects are already a "recurring annual" running gag of the forum ;-)

That's just how it is when you search for years and can't make up your mind. Now a real house has been purchased.

The stairs go down to the basement. The single-family house is located on a slope, so there are smaller living spaces in the cellar. There are two children's rooms there, which should not be changed. The children's room on the ground floor is used as an office. We are two adults who have two children visiting every other week for one week.

We are aware that a load-bearing wall will be removed. A professional will do that.

I was not aware that it is more sensible to open only one thread. Now unfortunately it is too late. I thought it would make sense to distribute it according to the topics.

Overall, it should not become a running gag of the forum. We have sold our previous house and have changed jobs. It's a pity that it was misunderstood.

Are there any ideas about the floor plan?
