Hello dear community,

I want to keep it simple and ask if anyone has already dealt so deeply with the topic of [Rollrasen] that he/she can name me a good and affordable provider/[E-Shop]! My garden landscaper wants to finish modeling the garden in the next few days. The garden landscaper says I should consider sowing the lawn only in March. However, if I’m eager, I could also lay [Rollrasen] at the beginning of September, right?

Do you have irrigation, a robotic mower..? The choice of lawn depends on that as well. If money is no object, you can use roll turf. For private use, there is really no reason not to simply sow. In 3 weeks it will be nice and green. You can also sow in October. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend a roll turf shop to you.

I basically shared that opinion, but after seeing how the lawn sown by the garden landscaper of the western neighbor looks, I am undecided. The professionally prepared soil plus the seed produced only weeds instead of grass. In the first construction phase, many gardens that previously did not have sod are now installing it. That means it is not about saving time or having an immediate green appearance for me, but about the lawn being mostly weed-free at the start. The robot and irrigation are already in the shed and waiting for use. I want to lay it myself. My eastern neighbor did it himself and said it is easy and quick. Therefore, I would be grateful for any tip. Currently, I am at €1260 for 250 sqm of sports and play lawn including delivery.

The Pfeiffer brothers in Willich are known for high quality. The experiences with sowing that you describe are mostly made by people who have not dealt with soil preparation. As is often the case, the price is apparently the only comparison criterion for this product. Lawn is not lawn.

Why not use a shallow-rooted “robot lawn”? It is extremely resilient and suppresses just about every “weed.” Since you have irrigation and a robot, it would be advisable. Even a turf lawn stays weed-free only with maintenance.

Search for local providers. There shouldn't really be any major differences, otherwise they would have gone bankrupt long ago. An advantage is also that you can usually cancel with them at short notice if the weather doesn't cooperate, and if something didn't go quite right, you can get a replacement.

Two neighbors also tried seeding and there is an incredible amount of weeds involved... after the heatwave, they are now getting [Rollrasen].

For 500 sqm, the four of us needed a Saturday and had many spots that were not easy. Curvy paths, rounded edges of beds, etc.
