Remove the thistles before they multiply and leave some living space for insects and worms. That will also be good for your garden. A family garden is not a green-sterile environment. Anyone who wants a well-maintained lawn has work to do and lives with restrictions and enjoys it. The lawn at looks great but will probably not serve as a universal utility area. Anyone who wants a nice green utility area in the garden doesn’t mind a few flowers, moss, and clover in the grass and finds it correspondingly easier – plus children can play on it more naturally.

You are absolutely right, I definitely want a beautiful, natural garden later with plenty of living space for insects and co, and some weeds on the lawn don't bother me either. But I thought I could make it a bit easier on myself and curb the weed growth for a few months, since removing it from our poor soil is really a struggle. For that, you’d have to excavate the entire soil again, everything grows so densely and tall, thanks to the adjacent forest.

Just make sure to dig out the [Giersch], [Sauerampfer], [Löwenzahn], and [Distel] and keep the rest trimmed short so it doesn't seed. Place unprinted cardboard under the beds before filling them up. The lawn is basically a battle. We have more clover than grass, plus [Distel] and [Löwenzahn]. If the area is no longer used as a barefoot play area, the grass will be removed.

If you basically build in the forest, you shouldn’t be surprised – about the weeds. And if you really want a nice lawn, you’ll become a slave. :D You can only really start taking action from my point of view when the landscaping/ the lawn is installed. Let it grow wild. When it starts, remove the top 20-30 cm and have clean topsoil delivered. And after that, the lawn must be maintained “around the clock.” Robotic mowers or mow yourself every 3-4 days, fertilize, water… only then will the lawn stay a lawn, especially near the forest. I completely redid our mini front garden (north side) last year after 10 years and it’s still in great shape. ;)

We have already dug out the 20 to 30 cm, before that we let it grow wild. We only want to fill it with topsoil once the terrace is laid.
Oh yes, I can imagine it will be work :D

We refilled in October 19 and this year the sorrel is coming through. 10 cm of Mainkies doesn’t bother, weed fleece doesn’t bother, only on the small strip of meadow it can be removed easily because the root is still smaller there.
