I don't know the price you have to pay now. But I ask you the question: Do you have alternatives? If not and the price is not ridiculously high, then go ahead. Otherwise, I personally believe that the general gas price will come back down over the course of spring.

But that would mean I fix the high price until the end of the year now and then obediently watch as the price goes back down? I know... no one can look into a crystal ball, but maybe there are interesting arguments for or against.

If you have a "cheap" provider, maybe nothing will happen with them in 2022 and only the really expensive providers (who have not stocked up long-term) will become cheaper.

But yes, that is crystal ball gazing.

The global and energy-political situation is currently so volatile that you can basically only gamble now. Half will win, the other half will lose. There is little that can be taken as an indication for further development. As it stands, prices are of course at an extreme level, mainly because of the empty gas storage in Germany. Since consumption will normalize again in spring, the price will also tend to go back down. On the other hand, not only Germany is currently struggling with bottlenecks. In Turkey, companies have now been instructed to halt their production for several days because the gas supply can no longer be guaranteed. In summary: it will not remain at this high level. Overall, however, I believe that the gas price will not reach the level of 4 cents per kilowatt hour again in the coming years. So if the price increases are moderate and fluctuate somewhere between 8 and 10 cents/kWh, I would probably take the offer.

It would have been nice if it were only about consumption…

We received mail from our gas provider today. The gas surcharge is now included in the price. Since we have a new contract starting at the beginning of the year that lasts 24 months, we will be able to bear the gas surcharge.

What really upset me, however, was a call today. They suggested to us that our gas provider was calling. My husband dutifully gave the meter reading, lots of blah blah on the phone, until he came to me and turned the volume up to include me, since the contract is under my name. Lots of nonstop blah on the other side. You can already guess what’s coming, right?…
When asked who was calling, “on behalf of your gas provider,” blah blah… And then: “And if you don’t..., then...”…
Only then did I become suspicious… Man, how well they are trained… I then (prematurely) spontaneously said that they could gladly send it in writing, but nothing would be done now or on the phone. Hung up without waiting for an answer. Better that way!
Googling the phone number shows me the company Tarifexp***, which aggressively inquires about meter readings and contract details, but actually uses these to try to conclude new contracts by playing on consumers’ fears.
Audacious!
Of course, my husband only “went along” because this letter from the provider had just arrived.. in hindsight, you realize that this is where the internal knot is hidden, so that your own logic behaves very cautiously.
