Hello! I need a bit of inspiration. To the indoor cat owners: where is your litter box located in your home (we are planning without a basement)? To those without a basement: where do you dry your laundry in winter that cannot go in the dryer? And regarding the utility/house connection room: the connections go in there, the washing machine, and we also need a bit of space to store things like the vacuum cleaner, cleaning supplies, etc. How big should it be? And then I would also like some opinions on whether to have a connecting door from the garage to the house. I always hear that it’s easier to break into a garage than a house, and then the intruder can quickly get into the house through the connecting door. But it would be very practical. Thanks in advance!

So, we haven't built yet, but we plan to put the cat litter box under the stairs with a cat flap (a small storage room is supposed to be created there, mainly intended for the cat litter box, and you can also store the litter supply there well). We want to wash and dry our laundry in the attic in a separate utility room; for this, we want to install fixed clotheslines—we find drying racks too unstable. There should be space for the vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies needed on the ground floor in the utility room (which will also be somewhat larger so that a bit of basement replacement area can also be created here, ~10-12m²), and the stuff on the upper floor will then go into the utility room, min. 7m². Possibly, something can also be stored under the roof (depending on the roof shape). We don't know whether the garage will be connected to the house since there is no plot yet, so planning in this regard is not possible yet.

Hello,

whether you make a connecting door from the garage to your house depends on your personal taste. I am more of a security person and therefore I would only do it with a proper door. This would then have to be as secure as the front door and thus relatively expensive.

Best regards

The litter box was last kept with us (due to lack of space) in a sheltered corner in the kitchen. But we are quite happy that we no longer have one now. We dry our laundry in the utility room or outside. However, we have the utility room and the technical room separate. Our utility room alone is over 12m2 in size. I only find a connecting door from the garage to the house sensible if you come out into the house near the wardrobe. Into the utility room, as many do, I don’t find so good or rather inconvenient. It is more important to me that I can get from the utility room out into the garden and don’t always have to take the detour through the garage. As far as security is concerned: before a burglar pries open a garage door, he will force open a patio door. Of course, all entrances – including side entrances – should be protected accordingly, and with the garage, you should always close the door when you go away and not leave the door open out of laziness as is often seen. That is then an invitation for any burglar.

Yes. Unfortunately, the cat is no longer here. :( Kidney failure, she was 15 years old.
