So friends of ours have the litter box in a corner of the kitchen, which is fine as long as it is not the main hangout area. Cats do appreciate quietness when using the toilet, so it’s better to place it in a less frequently used room. A utility room, stairwell, or storage room is an option, but the cat will probably spend most of its time in rooms where you don’t have to open a door to get in. Or do you want to install cat flaps in all the interior doors? If the scratching post or the cat bed is in the living room and this is therefore the main hangout area of the cat, you can also put the litter box in a quiet corner behind the sofa. It is out of the way there and the cat can get to it anytime.
