I would find it very regrettable if the OP were to try to work through a defect list of question marks with the architect instead of finally demanding transparency from the architect in order to understand his design intentions. An architect must be able to explain his concept to his client so that the client, as a layperson, can evaluate it. Simply bringing a confusing staircase to the correct length and straightening it is not enough. Full agreement.
