Basically, I agree with you regarding the dirt in front of the stairs. It was extreme up until three weeks ago, when the paths were not yet paved and we vacuumed the entrance area 3-4 times a day. Currently, we have a dirt-trapping mat inside the front door and a dirt-trapping runner extending into the hallway. Once we finish grouting the paved areas next week, the doormat will finally be placed in front of the door.
We did not see a cost-effective way to design the stairs differently and ended up with this floor plan. Our floor plan was only meant to show the OP how we solved the desired things. I have to say that I regard our square footage as the minimum for the room program. It should be mentioned that we were very limited by the building envelope (12.6m x 7.6m).
I wouldn't know how to fit a living-dining-kitchen area, WC with shower, utility room, and hallway into 60m²?! For example, I wouldn't go below 8m² for the utility room.
We are now also immediately investing in the outdoor area and having the area in front of the entrance paved, including a foot scraper. Besides the vacuum cleaner, this seemed to me the only reasonable solution given our clay soil in the outdoor area.
... by not planning any stairs in front of the entrance area - stair base further away from the entrance, and it stays clean [emoji2]
Correct answer, but turning the stairs around would have meant another gable... The house would probably also have had to be a bit deeper and then would have exceeded the budget.

I notice: You hijacked this thread from ... now he has to read these stair stories, even though he had a completely different question :O
