That's right, it clearly looks like shareware house-design software. From the flea market, still on diskettes
Regardless of the fact that I fully agree with you on the look, I don't see what influence the software (whether paidware, freeware, or shareware) is supposed to have here. As if professional software or your repeatedly clearly expressed preference for paper and pencil would play a role here. A fool with a tool is still a fool... and in this case, neither the pencil nor Nemetschek or AutoCAD would have helped. Or was it "only" about the graphical representation, not the planner's ability? That he hasn't yet found the optimum here (at least not to MY taste) is obvious, but that doesn't mean someone couldn't be happy in that house. Different strokes for different folks... ...what I find rather unfortunate is that the original poster probably isn't so happy with the solution either, but has likely already left a good amount of money for this "service" (I estimate around 5k) and is now stuck in a dilemma, having to look for another planner and write off the money or make another attempt with the current one (with probably little hope for improvement)... @OP: was that the only design from your architect? I'm asking because our architecture firm provided us with three very different designs back then, from which we then developed one further. Other architects we asked about always talked about three preliminary designs. By the way, the designs from our firm were available at a fixed price of €1500, which was charged upon commissioning (then according to HOAI). We found that fair, as I always feared that in the end I would pay a lot of money for designs that I couldn't make use of. In the preliminary designs, apart from the external dimensions, there were no major measurements included either, in my opinion this is also far too much detail if you first want to clarify the basic room layout...
