Are you saying that at our age and without children, we don’t have such a big risk of doing something wrong since we are planning a “Zwischenhaus” first? Of course, it won’t be just a temporary house that we sell again, but one we definitely want to expand, add to, and modify. Maybe thought of somewhat modularly, like with the wellness area – that is supposed to be planned separately as a small house with a garden sauna, so that in 15 years a pool or other fun additions could be added. Why not also add the larger sleeping area as a new “module” when two kids come along… then the offices remain in the main house, the old bedroom becomes a playroom, and the family sleeps in the new part of the house. There’s definitely a lot possible :D

Yes, I see you as largely safe typical temporary house candidates. And no, you don’t patch a temporary house, that would be a perversion of the concept. The modular house is an alleged "Columbus' egg" from a hundred years ago, which has not prevailed, although it has been revived no less often than the miniskirt.

What would our option be then?
It doesn't make sense to build a house to flip on a plot of land that we will certainly never sell, does it?

Yes. Because real estate may be immobile, but it is convertible. And that is a good thing, because people develop – even in the countryside. You want to build now and you can, so do it. Waiting fifteen years (just because you don’t yet know who you will be at forty and what you will need and/or want then) would be nonsense. You can’t freeze yourself until you are wise – not least because no one knows beforehand when they will be. Especially since, when the interim house is ready to be passed on, you will have enjoyed it until then and will not see it as a mistake. Nevertheless, the conversation with the architect for the second house will be different than for the first. Never say never; this insight has even made it to the title of a James Bond movie. You will feel when it is time to look for a new owner for your interim house. For now, just build it, gladly with electrical work by dad :) Most of what has happened in the meantime since I was as young as you, I didn’t foresee back then. Yet it came, and not all of it was bad. In twelve years your then seven-year-old child will say: “hey mom, don’t be stupid, take the suitcase full of cash and build new” – whether Horst from the neighboring town of will still be drawing then, we don’t need to know yet. Tomorrow is just the start of a new week, nothing more.

Okay, thanks :) Then we will now plan sweetly and simply for our current life. And if we actually want to remain childless, the small house would even still be sufficient at 40 ;)

You will develop even without children :)
