Why is it deducted from the gross? For me, it isn't.

Uh, no. When I was hired, it was negotiated that my employer would pay an additional 5.6% (based on my gross) on top of my salary into a company pension scheme and that I would have zero personal contribution. This pension also pays out in the event of a reduced earning capacity pension and pays the pension at the level I would receive at age 65 with continued contributions.

So this costs me nothing and does not reduce either my statutory pension or my current net income. It is simply an instrument for employee retention by my employer.

Well, presumably your employer would have paid you 5.6% more gross salary otherwise. Now he just pays it into a company pension scheme.

The life expectancy of newborn men in Germany is 78.5 years. The life expectancy of men who are 75 years old today in Germany, on the other hand, is 11.05 years, i.e., "final age" 86 years...

I said the danger is real. And it is, your numbers don't change that.

With a company pension scheme, the employer must contribute more than what is deducted from the gross salary, namely at least the saved employer contributions. In addition, the tax rate during retirement is often lower than as an employee. Therefore, these arrangements can certainly be worthwhile in the long term. Unfortunately, it is a far too complex topic and always an unknown bet on the future, in which politics likes to change the rules of the game. But that can also happen with ETFs or other forms of retirement provision. I think it is important that you do at least something more than just the statutory pension and homeownership.
