Hello. After we signed up for internet with Telekom 13 months ago and have now been living in the house for 4 months, last week finally a sub-subcontractor came for the fiber optic line. Since they showed up unannounced at the door, unfortunately I was not on site. The colleagues were apparently just nearby. After 10 to 15 minutes the colleagues left again. The cable wouldn’t go through. It was supposed to be blown from the utility room into the pipes. The statement was that there was no air in the pipe?? Huh? Our neighbors (also a new build) were also visited briefly and they couldn’t blow the cable in either. The statement there: possibly a kink in the cable. Telekom, of course, knows nothing and the sub-sub just says it has to be checked. What are your experiences? What can you advise us here? The empty conduit was laid in advance by a company at both houses. Our empty conduit goes along the foundation and then straight to the street.

We had a pulling rope in the empty conduit, so that excuse doesn’t apply. If they had blown a pulling rope through and pulled their cable along it, for us it was about 70m. Two of them didn’t feel like it. Call and have them come again with an appointment, do you have the company?

To my knowledge, a fiber optic cable is blown through the empty conduit with an air cushion, basically a strong airflow. And they always do it that way, I don’t think they will agree to a pull rope. I don’t know what the statement about no air in the line is supposed to mean, you don’t have a vacuum there, especially since they also bring air with them to pass through ^^ I can understand a kink more easily, there will be a strong resistance after x meters and that’s that.

I would order them again, this time with an appointment and then they should put in a bit more effort.

If the pipes are bent or damaged, you cannot push the fiber through with the air because there is either a hole somewhere or the fiber no longer fits. This happens more often when it is laid carelessly or the pipe is damaged by construction vehicles.

Currently working on it. The annoying thing about it is being bounced back and forth between Telekom, sub, and sub-sub. But I keep putting on the pressure.

Are there end caps on the speedpipes? It often happens in new development areas that the installer of the empty conduits places closure caps inside at the house connections. The next subcontractor who is blowing in the cables naturally has to remove them. Otherwise, nothing will work.

if you need a bit more help there, also contact Andreas Wilke from Telekom who is happy to help or the Telekom Hilft team is directly on site. There is also a separate VDSL FTTH section there.
