Don’t get me wrong, we will probably also buy a storage system. But our storage system of 12.8 kW only costs us around 6.9k and comes with a 10-year warranty. And our user profile is ideal. Because of working from home, we consume a lot of electricity even during the day. As gamers and people who eat warm meals in the evening, we also need quite a bit of power after sunset. Then there’s the heat pump, air conditioning in summer, and electric car. Since we don’t use the electric car for commuting but rather for everyday and occasional trips, we can charge it flexibly whenever there is surplus power available. Therefore, we hope to actually reach 200 cycles with the storage system, so it pays off before the warranty expires. Everything beyond that – even with reduced capacity – I see as pure profit. =)

Still, for us this remains an experiment. Whether the thing pays off within 10 years depends largely on the development of electricity prices, the evolution of feed-in tariffs, and the actual usage rate and durability.

... it would be very interesting if you could create a new thread here with your experiences after commissioning, including any possible changes in usage behavior, etc. I would be very happy about that

I would be the last person to need asking twice to start a new thread.

Storage is currently becoming significantly cheaper, unless it has to have a fancy brand on it. Just like with modules or inverters. Recently saw some for 250€/kWh. Even self-construction is no longer worthwhile for that.

Storages are and remain pointless ;) In summer it is full after 2 days and hardly empties anymore... and in winter it is not charged at all because the generated energy goes directly into the heat pump.

Apart from that. I know, annoying... but it should become established that the unit for the size of the storage is kWh, not kW. The storage stores energy, not power.

Only madmen build a storage themselves anyway. If it catches fire and burns down the house as well, no insurance on this planet will pay a single cent.

I cannot provide any real long-term experience yet, but this is what it currently looks like for us:

37.4 kWp installed module capacity. East/West.
That means only 50% is ideally irradiated by the sun.
Both roof sides are fully occupied.
The maximum generation was highest during light cloud cover -> up to 27 kW due to reflection.

We have no storage. Now in April/May the system produces so much electricity that we still draw about 20-30% of the power from the grid.
Per 24 hours we now consume between 8 and 14 kWh (KfW40) in spring.
Between 6 a.m. and 7:30/8:00 p.m. the system actually covers almost the entire electricity consumption. (Northern Germany)

We paid ~1,150 EUR net/kWp at the end of 2022.

The pictures show heavy cloud cover and rain (06.05) and sunshine (29.04).
