Hello,

That is only possible if you want to build purely monolithic, otherwise WDVS must be considered.

You want to achieve KfW 55, therefore WDVS must also be taken into account, and from experience 24 cm Poroton and 16 cm WDVS are required. With precise calculation, it could also turn out that you need 18 cm WDVS; this depends crucially on the location of your property.

If you decide against KfW 55, you do not need WDVS and can build accordingly monolithic with a wall thickness of 36.5 cm. The wall thickness depends on the choice of the brick (lambda value) but essentially on the structural requirements.

Kind regards

Quote from construction expert:
"...With these measures, a solid and durable single-family home can be realized, whose future residents will not feel like they are living in a technology-heavy plastic shell..."
I know that this statement is not meant in a bad way, but we have never regretted our decision for a "technology-heavy plastic shell" (timber frame prefabricated house with ETICS). KFW 70 (as construction expert correctly noted, for KFW 55 we would have had to spend about €20,000 more), brine heat pump, KWB/heat recovery. Very pleasant living experience, in winter "warm" walls, not the slightest problem with moisture – even in cold Upper Franconia

Taste is very subjective and individual. In my opinion, not a suitable guide for a reliable decision. Either you pragmatically pursue the goal of economic efficiency, or you let yourself be guided by feelings, assumptions, and guesses. There is no "ultimate" wall structure, only a suitable solution that comes closest to the individual framework conditions in their entirety. Probably worse thermal insulation, better sound insulation.
Best regards.

Hello Bauexperte,

Until now, I have been a silent reader in this forum and, of course, also a prospective builder. With this text, you practically spoke from my "soul" and dispelled my last doubts regarding my wall construction and building technology. Especially your last two paragraphs, in my opinion, are an honest and objective assessment of the very confusing topic of energy + building technology + building envelope. I consider the hype around PH or KfW 55 as the sole future-oriented construction method to be exaggerated or not always feasible. The middle ground you outlined above represents the OPTIMAL SOLUTION for me personally and for my construction project, which I had already planned but had unsuccessfully sought professional confirmation for.

Thanks for that!!!

Best regards,
Dudlove

Hello,
Extremes are rarely truly sensible. The actual truth usually lies somewhere in between.
It is not difficult at all to find it if you have previously determined the actual demand (performance, energy) for heating, hot water, and possibly ventilation.
It is always the overall context of the individual construction project that is decisive, not sporadically picked details, such as the insulation value of a AW.

Regards.

Hello €uro,

what you write is absolutely correct. But I have been reading in various forums about building for quite some time now, and whenever the question comes up, "Which stone should I use? ETICS or monolithic? Heating system Controlled residential ventilation ... and much more" the usual answer is: Everything has its pros and cons or it has to be decided on a case-by-case basis. – And that is true. The problem is that a prospective builder who spends his precious time in such forums to get information simply has no idea about the subject and cannot do much with such general answers. Not to mention that he will never be able to understand the overall interrelations between building envelope, technology, economy, ecology, and who knows what else. Surely many answers or forum posts are technically correct, but a person seeking help (who is not an expert) can rarely take away something useful from them.

This is not meant as criticism; I think this forum is great and I have taken away a lot for myself, but I found Bauexperte’s contribution outstanding, simple, honest (at least that’s how I feel), and a great middle ground expressed perfectly. And exactly the way I want to do it with my own building project.

best regards, Dudlove
