Thanks for the tips. Yes, the thing with the steel beam could also really look suboptimal. 25cm is quite a lot. The ceiling height on the ground floor is relatively high, 2.55m if I’m not mistaken.

Is it possible to simply enlarge a basement?
Maybe it has already been mentioned, but would a conservatory be an alternative?

This piecemeal approach with the information is very annoying to me. That said upfront.
I would be interested in the complete plans of the basement and ground floor so that one can get an overall picture of the current actual situation.
If it’s only about this extension, I would look for a good structural engineer who is authorized to submit building applications in your place. I would save the fee for an architect there.
The cellar will not necessarily have to be enlarged. Unless you need the windows. And then a flat roof extension on the ground floor.

If you want to expand to the left by more than 90 cm, the very first thing I would do is find someone who can tell you definitively how far you are allowed to expand to the left. Because what needs to be structurally calculated depends on this expansion.

Has the purpose of the whole thing actually ever been explained in detail somewhere, instead of just "everything is too small for me"? I mean specifically? That's already 4.20 by 5.20 meters! How is the furniture arranged? Which furniture is supposed to go into the new version at all? That will be a dance hall without any concrete use of the extra space! We have 4x4 meters and a cozy corner with a sofa for 4 people, a coffee table, and it’s not too small. Is it purely a matter of feeling? Then of course there is no need to argue. But if there is a concrete purpose (which I apparently missed), it should be presented again in detail to give advice. Otherwise, for me, this will be the most expensive private dance hall of the year.

Selling the house and buying a new one with a bigger living room is definitely cheaper, by the way. That won't work, really won't...
