Yes, as a rule, companies earn disproportionately well, especially from encouragement. Partly, this is a mixed calculation to allow the low entry price, partly it borders on rip-off because after signing the contract you have few alternatives. In online retail, you can get many things quite cheaply. However, as already mentioned, all the connectors and other accessories are missing. You are helped with those too, but you quickly forget the prices, and if you accidentally forget a part, it is annoying during installation when everything has to be stopped. Besides, it is very difficult to find an installer who will install goods you procured yourself. Of course, he does not know where they come from or what the quality is, and on the other hand, he usually also earns from procurement. Everything that needs to be sealed, such as showers and bathtubs, should be left to the experts. Other things like toilets, washbasins, etc. can be done yourself if you know what you’re doing. That is basically not rocket science, BUT you do have to know how and what to pay attention to. In addition, my predecessors are right, the warranty must not be underestimated. Because damage here is not everyday, but when it does occur, it is usually very expensive.

Hanging a plain toilet bowl is usually not a problem. But especially the new models with invisible mounting are a bit trickier. Besides, it has to be properly hung and not bear pressure on one side against the wall. I really do a lot myself, but I don’t install sanitary items - not because of warranty, which was almost always irrelevant to me during construction, but because it has to be done right immediately and I don’t want to deal with my own stress - the plumber often gets it done much faster. Ultimately, that’s also a bitter pill you have to swallow if you want everything from a single source at a fixed price - that often only works through the expensive sampling route.

We went to the specialist retailer for ordering and the principle was explained to us there. The standard is specified and offered by the plumbing company at ruinous conditions. Then, for all special requests, the maximum price is demanded as a compensation. The developer adds another 10% processing fee on top of that. As a customer, you are in a do or die position, as many things simply cannot be done afterwards. Just calculate it in beforehand and everyone is happy...

Why the craftsman wants so much more and the online retailer so much less is quite simple. The online retailer buys directly from the manufacturer and sells it to the customer. In most cases, the craftsman cannot do this and must purchase from the wholesaler. The wholesaler, in turn, buys from the manufacturer. So there is one more link that wants to earn money. But this is only one factor among many.

The craftsman will usually have special conditions for a series with the wholesaler, for property developers or general contractors. Simply to remain competitive. These are significantly cheaper than the normal purchase price. If the end customer now wants something that deviates from this series, the additional cost is naturally much higher. Because the craftsman can only credit the price of the special condition or continue to calculate at his normal conditions.

In most cases, for example, a shower head is not included in the specifications. This means it is a complete additional cost without any credit. But since it is not done with just a shower head and a shower arm, it should be clear. This is also the point where the online retailer is done with you. He cannot sell you any more. The pipe from the lever mixer to the connection for the shower head must also be installed. And here the installation time can vary greatly depending on what is desired. Then another lever mixer is needed because the normal shower mixer is only designed for one outlet. So a bathtub mixer is required, which enables two outlets. And in the end, you have an additional cost that is significantly higher than with the online retailer. Depending on how the installer then writes it into the additional cost offer, it just looks like you only get the shower head.

Your example with the double washbasin. A double washbasin costs, according to the price list, three times as much as two singles. Many underestimate this and think it should actually be cheaper because it is only one big washbasin.

Best regards

That it is more expensive from the craftsman himself than in online trade explains itself, of course. Nevertheless, the discrepancy between the purchase prices and what the developer makes from it seemed immense to me. Especially when you also consider that a washbasin or shower system would already be included in the standard, which is also removed, and on top of its price another 1000 euros are added. We do not know which individual parts are also needed for installation and what they cost, but a difference of over or just under 1000 euros is already calculated as a very high profit, don't you think?! Profit, of course, but isn't that rather extreme? Maybe we are mistaken?
